Fair Food Network

The Double Up Food Bucks program is up and running. This is great news for families who want to eat healthier diets but simply don’t have the resources. Under the program, eligible families who shop at participating stores and farmer’s markets will be able to double the amount of money they spend for fruits and vegetables. Participating stores and markets should have signs and flyers in place now for more information.

Families who qualify, those currently receiving SNAP, or food stamps, can receive up to a $25 daily match in their purchase of locally-grown healthy foods.  The program is described as a win-win-win. Eligible families can afford more nutritious food, local farmers sell more produce, and money stays in the local community.

This program is a perfect example of national, regional and local agencies working collaboratively to address a serious community problem.
